Good Hope plantation is our magnificent home for this inspirational week in Jamaica to explore our art.  The Great House was built 1740 when sugar was king. From the Great House varandas, the green expanse  of 2000 acres unfolds.  Pinto's well equipped ceramic studio is a short walk down the road. Open plan with wide varandas on both sides, with ample space for wheel and handbuilding using a variety of clays.  Just below the studio is the meandering Martha Brae river, the old sugar factory, and the water wheel that powered the mill.

Once you arrive, we will review a  clearly detailed schedule showing the daily demonstrations, meals and other activities. You can choose to start at dawn with a walk with the owners through the property; flow with resident yogi, breathing in the lush tropical environment; or sleep in before enjoying breakfast that is sure to include fruits, coffee and organic veg from local farms.   There’s time for swimming in the river, exploring on horseback with expert guides, massage and spa treatments, or swinging gently in a hammock. In studio we will share an abundance of ideas and techniques including individual sessions to help move forward from where you are now.

We always include local involvement to share our group energy with school children and expose ourselves to local experts. Alvin, a horse expert and part time fisherman, shares his skill in transforming the towering bamboo into woven fishpots .  He sets these in the river with roasted coconut as bait for the delicious crayfish.

Good Hope’s beach is a short shuttle down to the coast near the town of Falmouth – A Georgian metropolis in the 1700’s boasting running water and other amenities before New York City!
